Translation - Explanation and Caution

The County of Lanark is offering text and website translation services provided by Google Translate™, a free service currently offering over 50 languages. Our goal is to assist English as a Second Language (ESL) users with a way to understand the programs, services, and information provided by Lanark County.

You agree that when a translation is complete, you assume the risk of any inaccuracies, errors, and omissions therein. You agree that the County of Lanark shall NOT be held responsible or liable for any damages or losses that may result from your reliance upon or use of Google Translate™.

Family Support Department

Under the Ontario Works Act, participants are required to make a reasonable effort to pursue support. The Family Support Department assists Ontario Works participants in obtaining financial support for themselves and their child(ren) through support orders and agreements. The Family Support Worker can provide information about pursuing support and discuss options that meet participants personal circumstances.

What Does the Family Support Worker do?

The Family Support Worker (FSW) can:

  • Conduct investigations to locate absent parent/spouse
  • Negotiate an interim support agreement
  • Complete court applications seeking support (child and/or spousal)
  • Review current court orders or agreements for support to ensure meets Federal Child Support guidelines
  • Request an increase in the amount of support being received
  • Liaise with the Family Responsibility Office (FRO)

What does the Family Support Worker do in court?

The Family Support Worker provides information and support but is not a lawyer and does not provide legal advice. The Family Support Worker will help you fill out paperwork to start the court process and will support you throughout the court process.
