Community Climate Grant

The Lanark County Community Climate Grant program offers up to $5,000 to non-profit community-based organizations in Lanark County to support climate-related projects. Applicants must demonstrate how their project aligns with at least 1 of the 7 guiding principles of the Lanark County Climate Action Plan:

Create a climate conscious culture and community
Eliminate fossil fuels
Optimize energy/water efficiency and increase renewable energy generation
Advance the use of nature-based solutions in climate change management
Sustainably manage waste towards a circular economy
Collaborate with community stakeholders
Increase funding, accessibility, and education

The deadline to submit an application is September 30^th, 2025. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until funding is expended. Projects must be completed in 2025.

Eligibility

Grants will not be issued:

To cover deficits or retire debts
To replace current program funding
To provide endowment funds
For sectarian, religious, or political purposed
To individuals
To provide money for fundraising activities
To support recurring operating expenses of established organizations or programs
To fund projects that have already been completed
As 100% of a budget activity

Projects must describe the following:

Project overview:
- Project goals, objectives, timelines, and evaluation
Applicant profile:
- Mission of the applicant
- Experience of the applicant in delivering similar programs, services, events, or activities
Merit of funding:
- How the project aligns with the guiding principles of the Lanark County Climate Action Plan
- How the project provides a climate or environmental benefit to the County of Lanark
- Existing community support through collaboration or partnerships with other organizations
Financial need and plan:
- Sound financial management and revenue generation (accurate records, realistic and responsible budget, various sources of income)
- Financial need (leveraging of funds, seed money, inability to fund on their own through own resources of alternative revenue generation)
- Clarity on how the contribution will be used

Eligible Applicants

Applicants must provide services or programs to residents of Lanark County. Unincorporated individuals or organizations must work in partnership with an incorporated organization that will share in the project and receive and manage the funds.

Organizations (or sponsoring organizations) must have been in operation for at least one year
Eligible organizations can submit only one (1) application per year.

Project Evaluation

The Community Climate Grant scoring matrix will be used to score applicants. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until funding is expended.

Reporting

Grant recipients are required to provide a report within two months following completion of the project. The reporting form will be provided to successful applicants.
