Media Release: Blakeney Bridge Closure Notice
For immediate release
June 7, 2024
Blakeney Bridge to be closed from July to December
Blakeney Bridge in Mississippi Mills will be closed until mid-December starting Tuesday, July 2 in order to facilitate the removal and installation of the new bridge.
The existing single-lane bridge, which was built in 1915, will be replaced with a two-lane modular bridge with a widened shoulder to accommodate pedestrians. Work includes all new concrete abutments and piers. Looby Construction was contracted by the County to complete the work.
Blakeney Bridge crosses the Mississippi between Almonte and Pakenham. During the replacement work, Five Arches Bridge in Pakenham and Ottawa Street Bridge in Almonte are the nearest alternatives for crossing the river.
“Time lapse video will be available for the public to view the progress of the project and can be accessed at www.lanarkcounty.ca/blakeneybridge,” added Sean Derouin, Lanark County public works manager. More detail about the entire project can be found there as well.
