Lanark County celebrates InternationalWomen’s Day
On this International Women’s Day, Lanark County celebrates the voices, perspectives and
contributions of all women in the community.
This year’s theme is “Inspire Inclusion,” and Lanark County Warden Steve Fournier
(Drummond/North Elmsley Reeve) notes women’s inclusion is valuable and should be a priority for
everyone. “The acts of including women in all aspects of our community and embracing their
diversity have enormous impacts. We should always work to ensure women’s voices and
perspectives are included in our decisions and actions to make for a better Lanark County.”
Fournier encourages everyone in the community to inspire inclusion. “By inspiring women to be
included, we create an environment where women have a sense of belonging, relevance and
empowerment.”
There are many ways to inspire inclusion:
Assist with women’s economic empowerment
Recruit, retain and develop diverse talent
Support and celebrate women and girls in leadership, decision making, business, STEM
(science, technology, engineering and mathematics), agriculture, sport and the arts
Address any areas where action is needed to support advancement of women and girls
Ensure access to high-quality education and training
Help women and girls make informed decisions about their health
“There are many ways to inspire inclusion,” Fournier said. “If women are not present and involved,
we should always ask ‘Why not?’ We must take action if the treatment of women is not equitable.”
International Women’s Day was first held in 1911 and is a day of global activism and celebration for
anyone committed to forging women’s equality. Learn more about the day and how you can “Inspire
