Media Release - Silver Chain Challenge 2023 Results

The Silver Chain Challenge, an annual event aimed at promoting active transportation throughout Eastern Ontario, has come to a thrilling conclusion, with participants celebrating their accomplishments in this year's competition. Residents of each county were able to sign up on the challenge website and log their walking, running, or cycling kilometres through the month of June to support their county. The challenge has once again proven to be a tremendous success, encouraging residents and visitors alike to embrace active lifestyles while enjoying the landscapes of the region.

After weeks of enthusiastic participation and friendly rivalry, we are thrilled to announce the winners of the 2023 Silver Chain Challenge. With over 7,000 kilometers logged collectively, participants have showcased their commitment to sustainable transportation and wellness.

Prince Edward County emerged victorious in this year's challenge, securing the top spot with an impressive 4000 kilometers logged. Their dedication to embracing active transportation has not only resulted in a healthier community but also demonstrated a powerful commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. Coming in second, Renfrew County logged an impressive 2700 kilometers.

Lanark County put forth a remarkable effort, recording 550 kilometers. The enthusiasm and support from the residents and visitors of Lanark County have further underscored the importance of promoting active transportation in the region.

The Silver Chain Challenge not only fosters friendly competition but also serves as a platform to raise awareness about the benefits of active transportation. By encouraging cycling, walking, and other sustainable methods of commuting, the challenge aims to reduce carbon emissions, alleviate traffic congestion, and enhance overall well-being.

Lanark County Warden, Peter McLaren, remarked, “We congratulate Prince Edward County as the winner of the Silver Chain Challenge. Thank you to all the Lanark residents who participated in the Challenge in 2023. We are already preparing to take back the title next year.”
